BSTRACT:

The phytochemical constituents and antibacterial and cytotoxic activities of Ononis natrix and Salvia verbenaca were appraised. Ethyl acetate extracts of these plants tested positive for flavonoids and terpenes and negative for alkaloids. The extracts inhibited growth of the gram-positive Bacillus subtilis and B. brevis (MIC 12.5–50 µg.mL–1 ) and were cytotoxic to the MDA MB-231 breast cancer cell line (IC50 29–41 µg.mL–1 ).
