Survey of Apple Arthropod pests in Al -Shawbak Area-Jordan

Abstract: Investigation of apple arthropod pest in ash-shawbak area was carried out during the growing seasons of 1997 and 1998. Apple trees in study area were attacked by thirteen species of insects. Some of these insects were regarded as key pest on apple culture such as codling moth( Cydia pomonella L.) and leopard moth (Zeuzera pyrina L.) , others were regarded as potential pests such as  flower chafers ( Tropinota sqalida Scop.) and eggplant jassid (Empoasca lybica Bery.), While species such as pear psylla,( Psylla pyricola Forster), woody apple aphid ( Eriosoma lanigerum Haus.) , melon aphid (Aphis gossypii Glover), green apple aphid (Aphis pomi Degeer), onion thrips (Thrips tabaci Lind.), black cut worm (Agrotis ipsilon Hufnagel), Pear lace bug( Tingis pyri E.), spotted tent form leaf miner( Phyllonoryster blancardolla Fabricius) and apple leaf miner (Lyonetia clerkella L.) were regarded as non-significant pests. Apple trees were also attacked by four species of mites. These included potential pests such as the brown mite (Bryobia rubrioculus Scheuten), the strawberry mite ( Tefranychus turkesfani Uyarov and Nikolski)  and the two spotted spider mite ( Tetranychus telarius Koch), and a non significant pest that is leaf blister mite (Eriophes pyri Pagst).
