Egyptian Pharaonic Religious Beliefs Between

Idolatry, myth, and Monotheism

Musallam R. Al-Rawahneh

 Abstract

This study sheds some light on the Egyptian Pharaonic beliefs, which have been described through a series of studies in contradicted ways, e.g. Totemism combined with divinity, as well as Idolatry combined with Monotheism. This study discusses these different studies and opinions related to the Pharaonic beliefs fairly and without prejudice to any one of them. The study has reached the point that the cause behind this contradiction in the Pharaonic religion relies on the nature of this religion, which is an accumulative one. Egypt, through its long history, has created new beliefs that have lived side by side with the old ones, without imposing any influence on them. Also, this study concludes that the Egyptian Pharaonic mixed belief is diversified, and this has been proven by the elements of the Egyptian Pharaonic religious beliefs in its historical phases:

First: both nature and state affected the Pharaonic religion.

Second: Polytheism and Monotheism in the Pharaonic religion.

Third: The sanctification of the Pharaonic religion to the Pharaoh, this fact is a result that came out from the Pharaonic myth.

Fourth: The Egyptians believe in immortality and the life of the hereafter.
