Age-related macular degeneration and early diagnosis of dementia.

Khalil M. al-Salem, MD, FRCS, FICO; Shlomit Schaal, MD, PhD

To the Editor We read the recent article titled “Associations Between Age-Related Macular Degeneration, Alzheimer Disease, and Dementia: Record Linkage Study of Hospital Admissions” by Keenan et al1 with great interest. The large number of recruited patients in this cohort is indeed impressive. In response to the authors’ concluding statement that there is no relationship between Alzheimer disease (AD) and age-related macular degeneration (AMD), we raise a few points for consideration and call for a more balanced and cautious proclamation.
