Abstract:

Desmoid tumors are cytologically bland fibrous neoplasms originating from the musculoaponeurotic structures throughout the body. The cause of desmoid tumors is uncertain and may be related to trauma or hormonal factors, or they may have a genetic association. They may be found in young women during pregnancy or just after giving birth. We are reporting a case of desmoid tumor of the inner aspect of abdominal wall that mimicked a large subserosal uterine leiomyoma. The initial clinical examination of the patient suggested a large abdominal wall tumor, while the imaging techniques including trans-abdominal U/S and MRI scan suggested a large subserosal uterine leiomyoma as the first diagnosis. Conclusion: This case emphasises the importance of clinical examination as the cornerstone in the diagnostic process.
