A method employing Chebyshev polynomials is proposed for determining the optical properties and their first order derivatives for multilayer structure systems. With the present method, values for reflectivity (R), transmissivity (T), and absorptivity (A) are calculated, and the derivatives of R, T, and A are determined as a function of wavelength. The computer program reduces the necesssary computer time by almost a factor of m (the total number of identity periods). The characteristic transfer technique is used to compare R, T, and A values with those obtained from the direct multiplication of matrices.
