Refrigerant Charge Reduction in a Small Commercial Refrigeration Systems

M.S. Tarawneh

Abstract:

In this paper different aspects of heat transfer and pressure drop in the heat exchanger as designed for the charge minimization are discussed. Focusing on the two-phase model prediction related to the charge in a small channel evaporator as a design choice for a significant charge reduction. Comparisons of the determined results between four evaporators with different channel diameters are presented in figures. Choice of void fraction correlations appears with greater effect on the refrigerant charge and three mass- flux void fraction correlations are recommended and compared. Concluding that the heat transfer mechanisms of these small diameters are different from those of larger diameters
