Foreign Language at Secondary School Level:

Classroom Discourse

This paper investigates the application of code switching in teaching English as a foreign language as classroom discourse. The qualitative data was achieved through questionnaire
survey.</sup>

^{The sample of the study consisted of 40 high school students in which they were selected randomly. The collected data was analysed using SPSS program.}

^{The findings of the study showed that, code –switching is a common phenomenon in teaching and learning
English as a foreign language at Ay’ primary and secondary Schools.}

^{To switch from English into Arabic is mostly required in classrooms, besides the necessity to facilitate teaching- learning process it also saves time and efforts.}

^{This study recommends that similar studies be conducted in other schools to obtain a clear and a complete picture of
code-switching (CS) and its use in school rooms.}
