Abstract

This study aims at revealing the existence of some semantic phenomena in Ibn-An-nahas's annotation of mucallaqat. Such phenomena, in turn, provide confirmatory evidence for the coalesoence between literary and linguistic studies, especially that such annotation was done by a linguist in order to protect the literary audience from ambiguity.

The study reveald that the phenomena of polysemy, synonymy, semantic precision are all available in this annotation this phenomena represented the main points of this study.

The study made it clear that Ibn-Annahas was aware of such phenomena. It also explained the types and forms of semantic change such as specialization and generalization and metaphoric transfer of meaning.
